15.2 million children are still working because schools are closed due to corona
Geneva, Ta. Saturday, January 16, 2021
According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), a Geneva-based United Nations agency, child labor has declined by 38% in the last ten years. However, the ILO has warned that the corona may worsen the situation.
According to the ILO, the situation has worsened due to corona and 152 million children are still engaged in child labor. The ILO said in a statement that poverty has increased due to corona. Whatever progress has been made in the field of child labor in the last ten years due to Corona is likely to disappear.
The closure of schools has made the situation worse. With the closure of schools, millions of children have been forced into labor to contribute to the family’s income. According to ILO data, progress in the field of child labor varies from one region to another. According to statistics, 50 percent of the world’s child labor is found in Africa alone.
An estimated 72 million children are involved in child labor in Africa. There are then 62 million child laborers in the Asia-Pacific. 70% of child laborers are mainly engaged in agriculture. However, with joint and strategic efforts, this situation can be improved. The ILO has declared 2021 as the year of abolition of child labor.
