Rick Scott has been named to the Senate’s Budget Committee, a plum assignment for a freshman Senator. Of course Scott is no typical freshman as a two-term Governor of the country’s third largest state and former CEO of a health care company.

Besides his assignment to the Budget Committee, Scott will also serve on committees that have a significance to Florida:

— Armed Services (Military)

— Commerce, Science and Transportation

— Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs

— Special Committee on Aging

“I am honored to continue fighting for Florida families in the U.S. Senate and look forward to serving on committees that will work to find innovative solutions to some of our nation’s most complex issues,” Sen.-elect Scott said. “I am excited to focus on continuing to promote economic growth and lowering taxes, improving transparency and accountability in government spending, supporting veterans, military members and their families and investing in the safety and security of our nation. I will build on the success we’ve had in Florida over the last eight years to ensure that every person in our state has the opportunity to get a quality education, a great job and raise a family in one of the safest states in the nation.”

Other than the Budget Committee assignment, Scott’s committees are the same as those held by outgoing Senator Bill Nelson.

Scott’s appointment to the Budget Committee, coupled with Senator Marco Rubio’s service on the Appropriations Committee gives Florida a one-two punch in securing federal dollars.

Scott will be sworn into office following the end of his second term as governor on January 8.
