Just hours after attending inaugural activities in Tallahassee Tuesday morning, former Governor Rick Scott is now a United States Senator.
Scott was officially sworn-in in the Senate Chambers by Vice President Mike Pence, who has the Constitutional responsibility of being the President of the U.S. Senate. Scott was accompanied on the Senate floor by Senator Marco Rubio and former senators Connie Mack, Mel Martinez and George LeMieux, who served as a placeholder appointed by former Governor Charlie Crist.
Scott defeated three-term Democrat Bill Nelson in November by the narrowest of margins.
While other new Senators took office last week, Scott delayed his swearing-in until he could complete his full second term as governor.
