With less than 10 weeks before the Republican Primary for governor, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam holds a double-digit lead over Congressman Ron DeSantis. A new Fox News survey shows Putnam has a commanding 32-17 lead over DeSantis. The undecided vote is 39%.
The poll was taken June 15-19, meaning Putnam shows no major negative impact from the revelation that a former employee in his state office mishandled applications for concealed weapons permits. The Fox News survey is also inline with a Florida Chamber poll showing Putnam with a 17% lead.
This clearly cements Putnam as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. Putnam also holds a sizable fundraising advantage over DeSantis, who didn’t enter the race until January. DeSantis has also yet to begin airing TV commercials across Florida, instead relying on frequent appearances on Fox News.
Not surprisingly with all the recent controversy over the Trump administration policy on separating children from parents who illegally entering the country, immigration is the top issue for Republicans. Health care, the economy and gun policy are right behind. Read full results of the Fox News survey.
There remains some uncertainty among the 901 likely Republican voters surveyed. Forty-six percent say they still may change their minds before the August 28 primary election.
